My class has been working on addition facts to 15 for several weeks with quizzes given three out of every four days - 90 seconds to complete 30 addition problems. Our goal is 80% or higher.
The kids seemed to be kind of "stuck in a rut" and not making much progress. As second grade teachers, we decided at our bi-weekly grade level meeting to make it a goal to improve those scores, and we brainstormed ways to do it. I began to look around and found your site - just what I was looking for - basic repeated practice of the addition facts in a fun, exciting way!
I introduced Jet Ski Addition to the class using a projector and got the children excited about trying the game. Then I bookmarked the site on our classroom computers. The children could hardly wait for their turn.
We decided to add our class room number after our "secret names", so that we would know when someone from our classroom was playing. We couldn't keep this exciting game to ourselves, so we shared it with the other second grade classrooms in our building. They could use their names followed by their own classroom numbers and then we could play other kids from our school. Suddenly indoor recess became an exciting Jet Ski race across the hall!
Many of the students play video games all the time at home. This was a way to let them enjoy their playing time, but to practice a skill at the same time. Many of the parents commented on how excited they were that their children were practicing their facts! It was very exciting to see
the kids wanting to practice those facts in a friendly, competitive way.
Here are the results:
Before playing the games, on Feb. 19, 14 out of 24 students passed with 80% or higher, 9 had 100%. After playing the games, on Feb. 29, 20 out of 24 students passed with 80% or higher, 14 had 100%.
One student went from a score of 63% to 100%. Two from 77% to 90%. A student went from 57% - 73% and is excited to go home every day to play the game! The children were very excited to see how their scores had gone up! (They keep track on their own chart).
I am of course thrilled with that improvement of scores! I am sure that much of the improvement is due to the fact that many of the children played Jet Ski Addition. I would be very happy to have you share this story on your site.

The math activities on your site have added excitement to the students learning experience. We use the Jet Ski Addition and Grand Prix Multiplication to aid in the development of basic math skills. It has given them a way to work with other students and practice vital skills simultaneously. The kids love being able to play with one another. This has been a real motivator for learning.
The math activities on your site have improved the students performance grades in classroom timed tests and have boosted the students confidence in their math abilities. Every time they come to the computer lab they want to use activities on your site.
Thank you for providing sound, challenging, and motivational on-line activities for the students. My kids are using your games at home as well. It has given them a safe way to play with their friends while enhancing basic skills!

I did addition and subtraction fact tests at the beginning of the school year for my records. All of my students were completing less than 20 facts in a minute. During math time this year I have tried to have stations. One station with me, one station independent working, and one game station to play the math games on line. Each student gets to play the computer games at least twice a week. I also award points to the students if they practice the math games/facts at home.
At the end of the nine weeks we tested again. All but three of my students completed more than 20 facts in a minute. Over half of my class was completing almost 30 facts in a minute. The three that didn’t complete at least 20 facts in a minute were very close to that goal. I had asked them to spend most of their time practicing the games with the skill that they needed the most work. Most of the students were working on subtraction games. On their subtraction tests, they all had very high scores.
After learning multiplication, we started the race car game where you get to compete against other students. The students love this. It is very hard for the students not on the computers to stay away from the computers when a race is going on. Everyone tends to want to go help the racers. They get so excited. The students have also discovered the addition racing game, and they love that too.
Several of my students would rather stay inside at recess to play the games instead of going outside. We have created a bulletin board in our room that is our trophy wall. At the beginning I was hesitant to hang up the trophies, but now I’m not because I found out that they are very generic. There are no numbers on them stating their score or the number of facts that they got correct. The trophies just say the game that they have completed/mastered. The students love earning the trophies as they pass through the levels, and they are very proud of them.
